Age of Mineralization at Sannae and Ilkwang Mines, Gyeongsang Basin, Republic of Korea.

Abstract

Sericite samples from an alteration assemblage associated with Sannae vein and Ilkwang breccia pipe, which lie within the Gyeongsang Basin of the Republic of Korea, have yielded K-Ar ages of $65{\pm}1.4m.y.$ and $69{\pm}2.6m.y.$, respectively. A biotite sample from the marginal phase of the Ilkwang stock, within which the breccia pipe is situated, gave a similar age; however hornblende from the same sample yielded $81{\pm}3.5m.y.$ It is considered that the 81m.y. age reflects the general age of intrusion within the Gyeongsang Basin, whereas the younger sericite ages reflect the age of mineralization. The mineralization is therefore thought to have taken place during latest Cretaceous to earliest Tertiary times. It is probable that the mineral deposits and the intrusives were formed during the same period as those within the Tungsten Province of South-west Japan.

한국의 경상분지내에 있는 일광각력파이프와 산내 중석맥에 형성되어 있는 변질대로부터 채취한 견운모의 K-Ar 연령은 $65{\pm}1.4$$69{\pm}2.6m.y.$이다. 일광각력 파이프가 있는 일광암주의 주변부로부터 채취한 각섬석은 경상분지내의 관입시기를 반영한 시기인 81 m.y.로 나타났다. 이보다 후기로 나타난 견운모의 연령은 광화작용시기를 나타낸다. 따라서 광화작용은 후기백악기-전기 제3기 동안 일어난 것으로 사료된다. 이것은 아마도 광상과 관입들은 남서 일본의 중석광상구내에서와 같이 같은 시기에 형성되었을 가능성이 있다.
