Abstract

The sedimentary rocks of the Choseon Supergroup are widely distributed in the northeastern part of South Korea. They are mostly composed of carbonate rocks with a small contribution of siliciclastic rocks. Numerous investigations have been carried out past two decades, however, most studies were concentrated on stratigraphic and paleontologic viewpoints. General and thorough sedimentologic data are still lacking. Recently, a few sedimentologists have investigated the carbonate rocks from the sedimentological point of view since mid-1980's. Even though about 20 papers have been published on depositional environment and carbonate diagenesis, research still needs more improvement, compared with recent investigations of the Lower Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in other countries. This paper deals with the criticizm based on the past works by numerous workers, the present problems we are facing with, and possible and ideal ways of approach in the future ahead of us.
