Abstract

This study was purposed to investigate the antioxidative effect of A.G.R. (Angelicae gigantis Radix) aqua-acupuncture on acetaminophen induced lipid peroxidation in rats. We administerated acetaminophen(500mg/kg, i.p.) to starved rats 24hrs after pretreatment of A.G.R. aqua-acupuncture for 6days. In liver homogenates, lipid peroxidation and hepatic enzymes were measured. In vivo administeration of A.G.R. aqua-acupuncture showed effective inhibition of acetaminophen induced lipid peroxidation and elevations of total glutathione level, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase activities. These results suggested that A.G.R. aqua-acupuncture might play a protective role in lipid peroxidation by free radicals in vivo.
