Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of Bee venom theraphy on the total epithelioma size and immune responses, such as the number of WBC, hemagglutinin(HA) titers. hemolysin(HL) titers, plaque forming cells for humoral immune response(PFC), carbon clearance for phagocytic function, quantitation of T-cell and B-cell, lymphocyte transformation, natural killer cell activity, and interleukin-2 productivity were measured in the epithelioma bearing mice induced by 3-methylcholanthrene and $prostaglandin-F2{\alpha}$. The experimental groups divided into 3groups.: Group Ⅰ: Group treated with Bee venom into Wi-jung(B54) after the epithelioma induction by topical application of 3-MCA and $PG-F2{\alpha}$ for 8 weeks Group Ⅱ: Group treated with Bee venom into the lesion of epithelioma after the epithelioma induction by topical application of 3-MCA and $PG-F2{\alpha}$ for 8 weeks Group Ⅲ: Group treated with Bee venom into Wi-jung(B54) and the lesion of epithelioma after the epithelioma induction by topical application of 3-MCA and $PG-F2{\alpha}$ for 8 weeks The results were summarized as follows: 1. The total epithelioma size was decreased with statistical significance at the 1st and 2nd week of the treatment in the Group Ⅰ and at the 3rd week in the Group Ⅰ and GroupⅢ respectively as compared with the control group. 2. The number of WBC was increased with statistical significance in all the groups as compared with the control group. 3. HA and HL titers were increased with statistical significance in the Group Ⅰ and GroupⅡ as compared with the control group. 4. PFC and lymphocyte transformation were increased with statistical significance in the Group Ⅰ as compared with the control group. 5. Carbon clearance was increased with statistical significance in the Group Ⅰ and Group Ⅱ as compared with the control group. 6. Quantitation of T-cell and B-cell was increased with statistical significance in all the groups as compared with the control group. 7. Natural killer cell activity and the productivity of interleukin-2 did not show any increase in all the groups as compared with the control group.
