Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of, and changes in, the spatial structure of Seoul by analyzing employment and of office space data for the period of 1980-1990. This analysis shows that the spatial structure of Seoul has changed from monocentric to polycentric during the 1980-1990 period Especially, what are so evident from this analysis can be summarized as decline of the CBD core in its relative importance, emergence and rapid growth of suboenters, and finally, expansion of manufacturing centers. These spatial trends are expected to continue until the post-suburbanization stage of urban development.
