The Antioxidative Activity of Korean Citrus unshiu Peels

Abstract

The antioxidative activities of methanol extracts from 9 kinds of Citrus fruit peels were investigated using the ferric thiocyanate and the 2-deoxyribose oxidation method, respectively. Among them, the methanol extract of Citrus unshiu showed strong antioxidative activity. And the methanol extract of Citrus unshiu was fractionated with several solvents. With regard their fractions, the ethyl acetate fraction exhibited the strong antioxidative activity, and further purified by XAD-2 column chromatography and preparative HPLC analysis. Antioxidant narirutin was identified by $^1H-$ and $^{13}C-NMR$. Its antioxidative activity was comparatively strong compared with that of BHA.
