Abstract
Optical properties and surface properties of fabric samples, including a polyester filament wool-like fabric, worsted and woolen fabrics, wool/polyester fabrics, were analyzed. For measuring the two-dimensional goniophotometric reflection patterns of the fabric samples, a glossmeter was employed. The measuring mechanism of a glossmeter with the capability of selecting incident angle of the light beam and receiving angle is based on an analog photometer and an amplifier system. The evaluation of the quality of gloss or reflection from textile materials is rather difficult at present while the measurement of the averaged gloss itself is definitive. In this study, several image analysis methods have been applied for the evaluation of the quality of the reflection from fabric samples. The area and the number of objects of highly reflecting surface on the fibers of the sample and the ratio of area of the highly reflecting objects were analyzed, with the results indicating the possibility of evaluating the reflection quality using image analysis methods. The pattern of contact area between carbon-deposited flat plate surface and the fabric having numerous free fiber ends was analyzed using image analysis methods.
