Identification of influences on groundwater fluctuations using spectrum analysis

Abstract

Groundwater levels were recorded during about 30-day period from April 27 till May 24, 2000 in two monitoring wells, PJW and PDW which are located in Dongnae hot spring area. Based on the recorded groundwater levels, we elucidated the cycle of groundwater level changes and their causes through spectrum analysis. Results from spectrum analysis indicate that the groundwater level recorded in the PJW well fluctuates with the periods of 170, 115, 25.8, 24, 12.4, and 12 hours. Among these fluctuation periods, fluctuations with 170-hour and 115-hour periods are attributed to the periodic heavy pumpage at Dongnae hot spring area. In addition, the 12.4-hour and 25.8-hour periods of groundwater level fluctuations in the PJW well coincide with the principal lunar-tidal components corresponding to the M2(12.4-hour period) and 0,(25.8-hour period) of tide, repectively, indicating that water level changes in the PJW welt are affected by tidal movement.

부산광역시 금정구 장전동의 신규 온천 개발공(PJW 관측공)과 동래구 온천동의 동래온천지구 중심부에 위치한 온천공(PDW 관측공)을 대상으로 2000년 4월 27일부터 5월 24일까지 약 30일간 수위변동을 관측하고, 이를 스펙트럼 분석하여 지하수위 변동의 주기성과 변동 원인을 규명하였다. PJW 관측공에서 관찰되는 지하수위 변동 주기는 170시간, 115시간, 25.8시간, 24시간, 12.4시간 그리고 12시간 등 6개 주기 성분으로 구성된다 이 중 170시간 및 115시간 주기는 PJW 관측공과 인접한 동래온천지구의 양수에 의한 영향인 것으로 확인되었다. 그러나, 25.8시간 및 12.4시간의 지하수위 변동 주기는 조석운동의 $O_1$ 성분 및 $M_2$ 성분과 일치하며, 이는 PJW 관측공의 지하수위가 조석변동 (tidal fluctuation)하고 있음을 지시한다.
