Abstract
Purpose : To evaluate whether pregnancy - delivery affect weight gain and study the factors that can cause weight change agter delivery. This research on the patterns of BMI after delivery can be clinical material in this field. Methods : Analyzing the body composition of women who was taken postpartum care in conmaul hospital postpartum care center from Jun, 2001 to Jul, 2001. Height, prepregnancy body weight and their delivery time weight were recorded. Body composition was also checked within 7 day of delivery and after 3 months of delivery by Body Composition Analyser. Body water, fat, muscle, BMI were measured respectively at those two times and examined the patterns of BMI and body fat change according to the number of pregnancy, mode of delivery, lactation period, weight gain during pregnancy. Result : Weight gain during pregnancy period was 13.82${\pm}$3.58 and weight of after 3 months postpartum reduced 5.85${\pm}$4.26. But body fat reduced just 0.94${\pm}$2.23. Afetr 3 months postpartum, body weight retentionwas 4.31${\pm}$3.10. Body fat of Women bearing first child reduced 1.11${\pm}$2.58 and bearing more than second child reduced 0.53${\pm}$1.35. Body fat of normal delivery group reduced 0.64${\pm}$2.27. And ceasarian section group reduced 2.67${\pm}$1.43. Case of lactation period was less than 1 month, body fat reduced 0.7${\pm}$2.3 and more than 1 month, reduced 1.07${\pm}$2.3. Conclusion : This study suggests that pregnancy and delivery can cause weight gain but the changes of body fat and BMI has no relationship with those factors(the number of delivery, mode of delivery, lactation period). And there is no relationship between the rate of body fat, BMI reduction, weight retention and weight gain during pregnancy period.
