Abstract

Tree-spray of liquid calcium compounds extracted from oyster shell significantly increased the calcium contents of ‘Jingfen’ pear fruits. The spray of calcium chloride was also effective on the increase of calcium content in leaves and fruit flesh, but not in fruit peel tissue. The levels of fruit and shoot growth, and the contents of soluble solids and vitamin C were higher in liquid calcium spray treatment. However, the acidity of fruit was not affected. Tree-spray of liquid calcium compounds effectively decreased the occurrence of calcium deficiency in fruit. Electron microscopic study revealed the high integrity of middle lamella of liquid calcium treated fruit compared with that of untreated ones.
