Abstract

Though the large-scale discount outlets emerged naturally under the current consumer market environment, it clearly influences the urban land uses, public facilities, and, eventually, everyday lives of the ordinary citizens. In order to establish rational land use planning and efficient urban facility planning, therefore, the locational characteristics of such shopping malls should be carefully observed and explored. This study, in this context, thoroughly investigates the locational factors of those large-scale discount outlets with the floor areas of more than 3,000m2; then summaries their characteristics in terms of the land uses, urban facilities, and other physical and environmental factors for the common citizens. The study findings are expected to significantly contribute to the enhancement of the physical aspects in actual planning of the land uses and urban facilities in the related areas.
