Abstract

Primula sieboldi E. Morr., Primulaceae, is native to Korea, and has attractive plant characteristics when potted and used as bedding plants. This experiment was conducted to study on the dormancy breaking and seed germination. The weight of thousand seeds was 0.24 g. Seeds harvested in June did not germinate until March of the next year. Seed dormancy was broken by immersing in 800 $mg L^{-1}$ $GA_{3}$ solution for 24 hours. Germination speed was faster when 200 mM $KNO_3$ was added to $GA_{3}$ solution. Seeds were germinated in wide temperature range of 10-25$^{o}C$, with an optimal temperature range of 20-25$^{o}C$. Plant ceased to grow during the period of high temperature above 25$^{o}C$ in summer and low temperature below 10$^{o}C$ in winter. The level of abscisic acid (ABA) in root crown was 0.12 $\mu gg^{-1}$ fw, and ABA was detected only in December
