The subjects were 320 female students who were collected from three health departments in Gwangju Health College. Oral Examination was conducted by one dentist during two months from April to May in 2000. The items of oral examination were dental caries prevalence, periodontal status measured by CPI(community periodontal index) and plaque control record by 0' Leary. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. The mean number of permanent teeth with active dental caries was 0.9, the lowest in 3rd grade of department of dental hygiene( p<0.01> 2. The total score of CPI in 3rd grade of department of dental hygiene was lower twice than other groups(p<0.001). 3. The plaque control records in 3rd grade of department of dental hygiene was 54%, lower from 13 to 20%than other groups( p(0.05). 4. The plaque control records in proximal surface and buccal and lingual surface of molar teeth were over 60% and 50%, respectively in 3rd grade of department of dental hygiene. We concluded that oral health and oral hygiene performance was improved by the professional education in dentistry.
