Abstract
Weed species diversity is a very important factor in ecologically based weed management for sustainable agriculture in the 21st century. Weed species and diversity are strongly affected by the cultivation method and the weed control method. Weed Species and weed numbers are increasing without herbicide and fertilizer. The weed diversity index of the paddy rice showed 0.35~0.87 in the non-fertilizer with non-herbicide application and 0.14~0.62 in the fertilizer with herbicide application. In 2001 dominant weed species in no-fertilizer and herbicide field were Echinochloa crus-galli, Scirpus juncoides, Monochoria vaginalis, Potamogeton distinctus, Aeschynomene indica, Eleocharis congesta and Lindernia Procumbens. On the other hand, in with-herbicide field, Monochoria vaginalis and Sagittaria trifolia showed 62%, 38% on importance value respectively. Rice productivity without using the fertilizer and herbicide was reduced to 22~33% by comparison with conventional method in the first year but in the third year reduced by 57~94% of rice yield
