Abstract

Objectives: The present study has been undertaken to investigate the effects of Platycodi Radix powder on the activities of several enzymes in serum of rats fed high fat diet. Methods: Twenty four males of Sprague-Dawley strains weighed about 580g were divided into 4 groups, each group receiving a different diet for 10 weeks ; i.e. control group, control+ 20% Platycodi Radix powder group, high fat diet group, high fat diet + 20% Platycodi Radix powder group. Determinations were carried out on the net weight gain, food efficiency ratio, and AST, ALT, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase activities in serum of rats. Results: The results obtained were as follows : AST, ALT, ALP, LDH of serum were significantly increased in lard containing group but Platycodi Radix powder feeding groups decreased enzyme activities compared to lard group. Conclusions: The above results suggest that Platycodi Radix powder would prevent the metabolic disease of liver by preventing hyperlipemia caused by high fat diet
