Ubiquitous computing is the ability to access useful digital contents and services through variety of digital information devices. It will evolve and ultimately change the way the government interacts with people. This paper reviews the progress being made for electronic government in Korea and also identifies some problems that could be addressed by ubiquitous government concept. Since ubiquitous government is about providing better government services and information through IT convergence, ubiquitous government strategy should be aligned to significantly improve service and operating costs. This paper also discusses some of the challenges faced by ubiquitous government.
지금까지 추진해온 전자정부에 대한 성과 및 한계를 점검하고 차세대 전자정부의 비전과 전략을 수립하는 데 있어서, 유비쿼터스 전자정부의 가능성과 추진방향을 탐색한다. 현재 유선인터넷 기반의 전자정부는 유비쿼터스 전자정부로 가는 초기단계로 파악할 수 있을 것이다. 유비쿼터스 전자정부는 모바일 단말기, DTV, KIOSK, 전화기 등으로 전자정부에 대한 접근 매체를 다양화하여 접근성을 제고하는 방향 이외에도, 이제까지 제공하지 못하였던 새로운 영역에서의 전자정부 서비스 창출과 연계하여 언제, 어디서나 필요한 정부서비스를 제공받는 고도화된 전자정부의 궁극적인 모습이다.
