The Effect of Several Herbal Medicines which appear frequently as the effects of Hypoglycemia in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats

Abstract

Objectives : This study was aimed to verify the hypoglycemic effects of the herbs which appear frequently as the effects of antipyresis & putting out the fire(淸熱瀉火)-Phellodendri Cortex(黃柏), Scrophulariae Radix(玄蔘), Radicis Lycii Cortex(地骨皮), Gardeniae Fructus(梔子), Aloe(蘆회), Rehmanniae Radix(生地黃), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma(知母)-which were chosen among the herbs that were regarded as holding the hypoglycemic effects. Methods : To verify the hypoglycemic effects through the animal test, after the rats for test were treated 1 times with %mg/kg i.v. injection of streptozotodSigma, USA) which had been dissolved in the pH4.3 citrate buffer and were induced experimental hyperglycemia, the streptozotocin(ST2) induced hyperglycemic rats were prescribed with extract liquid 7.58 of each herb produced for test. And then the component such as glucose, insuline, and glucagon in serum and the change of body weight were measured and analyzed. Through that course, the significance for cure of DM were verified. Results : According to the booklet investigation, seven herbs which were useful for cure of DM were chosen and tested per 0s. As the result of that, It became evident that .Scrophulariae Radix, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma were significant for the hypoglycemic effects on DM. The insulin measurement showed the significant increase on both 3rd day and 7th day in the group of Scrophulariae Radix, Gardeniae Fructus, Aloe, Rehmanniae Radix and only showed the significant increase on 7th day ipl the group of Phellodendri Cortex, Radicis Lycii Cortex, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma. Besides, the glucagon measurement showed the significant decrease in the group of Radicis Lycii Cortex, Gardeniae Fructus, Rehmanniae Radix, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma. And the measurement of weight change showed the significant increase in all the sample herb groups. Conclusions : According to above result, Phellodendri Cortex, Scrophulariae Radix, Radicis Lycii Cortex, Gardeniae Frutus, Aloe, Rehmanniae Radix, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma were expected to be applied to the treatment of DM.
