Abstract

An electrochemical method using $Ti/IrO_2$ anode for the treatment of a wastewater containing reactive dyes was investigated. The method alone or in combination with coagulation was compared with a several physico-chemical processes, such as NaClO oxidation, Fenton oxidation, and coagulation. Toxicity and biodegradability of the treated effluents were also evaluated in terms of $G_L$ value and COD/BOD ratio. The COD removal efficiency by the electrochemical method was 75.9% under the condition of $3 A/dm^2$ of current density and 4 g/L. of NaCl, and 99.1% under the condition of $7 A/ dm^2$ of current density and 16 g/L of NaCl. As results of luminotoxicity test by the luminescent bacteria Vibrio ficheri, the $G_L$ value of untreated wastewater was 128 and it was reduced to 48 after 40 minute of reaction time. The toxicity of effluent was initially reduced, but increased at reaction time long a than 1 hr due to the formation of chloroorganics.

실험결과 전기분해의 COD 제거율은 전류밀도 $3 A/dm^2$, NaCl농도 4 g/L에서 75.9%이었으며, 전류밀도 $7 A/dm^2$, NaCl 농도 16g/L에서 99.1%이었다.
