Abstract

Steel-concrete composite deck using twin steel I beams is highly developed in Europe for highway and railway bridges. This paper describes this type of bridge and its advantages, and presents its first applications in Korea. For highway bridges, two types of transverse cross sections could be used. Very wide decks could also be built. The main points of the design are described, as well as environmental, construction, maintenance, and cost issues. Examples of applications and design projects in Korea, both for highway and railway bridges, are presented.
