Weed Control of Sulfonylurea Resistant Japanese bulrush(Scirpus juncoides) in paddy of Korea

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effective herbicides and control methods of sulfonylurea resistant Scirpus juncoides Roxb. in the paddy fields. The resistant tests of sulfonylurea herbicides confirmed in greenhouse including azimsulfuron, bensulfuron-methyl, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl and LGC-42153. The susceptible biotype was controlled completely at the recommended dosage of all the herbicides applied, but the resistant biotype was survived at the same dosage of them. Non-sulfonylurea herbicides, such as oxadiazon, butachlor, pretilachlor, fentrazamide and clomazone+butachlor applied at pre-emergence stage, butachlor, pretilachlor, thiobencarb, esprocarb, mefenacet, fentrazamide, indanofan, pyrazolate, molinate+ simetryn and prazosulfuron-ethyl+pyrazolate+simetryn applied at 1 leaf stage and thiobencarb, esprocarb, indanofan, pyrazolate, molinate+simetryn and prazosulfuron-ethyl+ pyrazolate+simetryn applied at 2 leaves stage had excellent controlling effects on the resistant biotype. However, the same times application of molinate, dimepiperate, pyriminobac-methyl, cyhalofop-butyl and pentoxazone on dosage recommended had very low controlling effects to the two biotypes. The resistant biotype of Scirpus juncoides Roxb. survived at 35 days growth stage could effectively be controlled by foliar application of only bentazone or the mixtures of bentazone and 2, 4-D
