Abstract
In the analysis of slope stability, the roots of tree have been considered to act as a soil reinforcement. In order to predict the enhancement of soil shear resistance which produced by tensile strength of roots, it is essential to be informed for the number of root by diameter class at arbitrary depth of soil. For this purpose, Korean white pine trees were selected and investigated to evaluate the characteristics of spatial root distribution. The total root volume and the number of root were investigated by every loom of soil depth and then applied by Weibull distribution function. Using these results, a simulation model was developed to estimate the quantity and distribution of tree roots at an arbitrary depth, Standard error between measured and simulated value of root distribution was used to evaluate the developed root distribution simulation model that can be estimated the root number at an arbitrary depth. The results showed that measured and simulated distributions of root were similar with the exception of 20cm of surface soil.
