Abstract
Cold hypersensitivity is the condition feeling unusual sensation of cold at temperature when others don't feel so. The diagnosis of this was based on clinical symptoms and nowadays for which DITI is used. Current perception threshold (CPT) was measured using Neurometer$\textregistered$ CPT/C device (Neurotron Inc., Baltimore, Malyland, USA ; neurometer) to evaluate relationship between cold hypersensitivity and peripheral sensory nerve fiber. Neurometer is a quantitative sensory test equipment for analyzing the functions of A-beta, A-delta and C-fibers at three frequencies (5-Hz, 250-Hz and 2000-Hz). 37 patients with cold hypersensitivity or numbness on hands were selected as subjects who visited the women medical center in Kangnam Korean Hospital, KyungHee University. We measured Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) about coldness and numbness and CPT on hands. The coldness VAS scores had statistically significant negative relationship with CPTs at 5-Hz and a little negative relationship with CPTs at 2000-Hz and 250-Hz, but no significance in statistics. However no difference could be found correlation between numbness VAS scores and CPTs. Patients with cold hypersensitivity have an unusual sensitivity in peripheral sensory nerve and a low thresholds of C-fibers, which convey pain and cold sensation.
