Abstract
This study aims to explore spatial structures of two local cities in Gyeongnam province. We examine to analyze the relationship between a new and an old city by Spatial Autocorrelation and Interaction Analysis in a metropolitan area: Masan and Changwon. In this paper, urban spatial structure and functional distribution patterns in the metropolitan area are represented on the maps applied to AreView GIS after application of a centrality measurement, coefficient of localization measurement, and spatial autocorrelation as an analysis of spatial statistics using GeoDA. For this study, first of all, the inter-city structure was analyzed by population, various land price (weight average land price etc.) and land use characteristics. Second, urban functional distribution pattern is analyzed by functional index coefficient of Davis, nearest neighborhood measurement, and Moran's I measurement of spatial statistical analysis in each 'dong', subdivided jurisdictional zone. Third, and interaction analysis is applied by mobility of migrant and industrial index, and additional qualitative contexts. Finally, as results of this research, three findings are summarized as follows; i) The urban structure of Masan had a mono-centric(organized) type and each zone (dong) was dependent on the others. ii) Changwon had multi-nuclei structure as seen in newtown and each zone (dong) was independent on the others. iii) A complementative relationship between two cities have been transformed into a competitive one.
