Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of oral health education on primary school children. The authors has educated 899 students(second and fifth grade) by an individual case and the group case, using a oral health education model for primary school children. The authors has examined and compared between pre and post-education of attitude, behavior and oral health improvements. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The degree of oral health knowledge for individual education was 7.02, 7.65 in pre- and post-education and the degree of that for group education 6.78, 7.20 in pre- and post-education(P <0.001). 2. The percentage of the tooth brushing frequency after eating a snack between meals was 34.29%, 38.28% in pre and post-education of second grade. The percentage of that was 26.09%, 28.57% in pre-and post-education of fifth grade. 3. The percentage of the rolling method in second grade was 34.67%, 47.78% in pre- and post-education. The percentage of that in fifth grade was 34.98%, 54.90%in pre- and post-education, 4. The percentage of the tongue brushing in second grade was 34.03%, 46.51 % in pre- and post-education. The percentage of that in fifth grade was 25.11%,41.78% in pre and post-education. 5. The PHP-index of individual oral health education was 2.79, 2.31 in pre- and post-education. The PHP-index. of group oral health education was 3.13, 2.83 in pre- and post-education(p <0.001). As the base of whole life oral health is determined, group oral health education of primary school periods must necessary to improve the dental health. Therefore, individual orall health education through primary school dental clinic should be strengthened with group education.
