Abstract
Weed control systems using herbicides and mulching practices were studied in ginseng gardens. Metolachlor, metolachlor+prometryn were very safe to ginseng, and ethalfluralin and metolachlor+pendimethalin were also relatively safe to ginseng. Fenoxaprop- P-ethyl, propaquizafop and haloxyfopR-methyl were safe to ginseng, but sethoxydim, clethodim, and fluazifop-butyl showed slight injury. Weed growth was suppressed by 91.6% by mulching practices using rice hull + polyethylene shade net in ginseng bed. Soil application of metolachlor+pendimethalin followed by straw mulching was the most effective method to control weeds without phytotoxicity and herbicide residue in ginseng roots
