Abstract

Plasmid DNA profiling, restriction endonuclease analysis, antimicrobial resistance patterns, and serotyping of 50 Escherichia coli strains isolated from poultry were performed using Mast Diagnostic kit. Only O6 serotype was determined. Fifty E. coli strains showed 10 different resistance patterns, with the most common antimicrobial resistance pattern being Enro/Sxt/Tia/Flu/Sul/Otet/Rif (45%), and 25 different plasmid profiles were observed. A 11.2-mega dalton plasmid was a common characteristic of isolated E. coli strains. Application of restriction endonuclease analysis on one banding pattern plasmid profile showed some heterologies between plasmids. Plasmid profile analysis distinguished more strains than antimicrobial resistance pattern and serotyping.
