Abstract

To reduce $H_2S$ in the gas stream of IGCC process, the $H_2S$ sorption capacities of iron-based sorbent were examined at the temperature range of $400{\sim}700\;^{\circ}C$ with lab scale fixed-bed reactor. The $H_2S$ sorption capacities of sorbents increased with the temperature of sulfidation reaction but decreased above $600\;^{\circ}C$ due to the instability of sorbents. The effect of additives such as $Cr_2O_3,\;MnO,\;Co_2O_3,\;Ni_2O_3$ and phosphorus were investigated. Among them $Co_2O_3$ additive showed relatively higher $H_2S$ sorption capacity. The optimum content of phosphorus turned out to be about 2% although the $H_2S$ sorption capacity decreased. During the 5-cycle sulfidation/regeneration reaction in the fixed-bed reactor, all sorbents studied here maintained 90% of the initial $H_2S$ sorption capacity of their fresh samples.
