Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effects of a mixture of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillusparacasei, Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus subtilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Opuntia ficus-indica var.saboten (DeOS) on the production performance and reduction of ammonia and $H_{2}S$ gas in pigs and broilers.60 Duroc Landrace Yorkshire growing pigs were used to evaluate the efficacy of DeOS at dietary concentrationof 0.1% and 0.2%. In group A(0.1% DeOS) and group B(0.2% DeOS), growth rate and feed efficiency were higherthan that of contro1(P<0.05). In aspect of environmental effect, DeOS supplementation reduced hydrogen sulfide andammonia gas in pig farm. Hydrogen sulfide was reduced from 200 ppm to 50 ppm for 6 weeks. In case of ammoniagas the concentration was reduced from 30 ppm to 10 ppm at the end of experiment.A total of 90 l-day old Arbor Acres was used and the chicks were assigned randomly into three groups with30 chicks per DeOS treatment group. The DeOS was administrated into basal diet, at levels of 0.05(group A) and0.1(group B)%. There was a significant difference of growth rate, feed intake and feed efficiency comparingcontro1(.P<0.05). In Satmonella gallinarium(SG) challenge test, death rate of control group was 40% and that of 0.1%DeOS treatment group was 13.3%.Weight gain and feed conversion ratio of chicks fed a mixture of DeOS were significantly higher than basal dietin overall period(P<0.05). Fecal ammonia gas generation was significantly decreased in both treatmentgroups(p<0.05). Moisture contents of bedding were also significantly decreased in groups A and B.In conclusion, supplementation of DeOS to pigs and chicks had a positive effect on enhancing good conditionof intestine, Production performance and reduction of harmful gas.
