Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes as a High-Efficiency Gas Sensor

Abstract

This work presents experimental results for MWNTs as a gas sensor, which works by a resistive-type mechanism, for hydrogen ($H_2$) and ammonia ($NH_3$) gases. A modified rf plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique was performed, to grow well-aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on glass substrates at a low temperature. Structural and chemical properties of MWNTs were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Experimental results indicate that MWNTs as a gas sensor can display high-efficiency sensing capability.
