Abstract

A new mungbean cultivar Soseon (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) was derived from the cross between KM9003-2B-783 and V2939 at the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (JARES) in 2003. “Soseon” has erect growth habit, heart leaf, green hypocotyl, straight pod, and dull seed surface. The average stem length was 14 cm shorter than the check cultivar, Nampyeongnogdu. A thousand seed weight of “Soseon” was light by 38 g, and sprout yield was up to 6% more than that of Nampyeongnogdu. It is resistance to mungbean mottle virus, cercospora leaf spot, and powdery mildew. The average yield in the regional yield trials from 2001 to 2003 was 1.62 ton/ha.
