Abstract

This study investigates an web information flow among the 16 provinces in South Korea. Information flow on the web was measured in terms of the frequency of hyperlink connectivity among universities' websites located in each region. For the study of inter-regional issues such as digital divide and cyber-social cohesion some social network analytical techniques such as centrality were employed. As results, Seoul was found to playa role of information hub having a high degree of hyperlink connectivity with other provinces. This could be taken as an web indicator to show that there might exist a regional divide on cyberspace. Further, the topology of hyperlink networks among the websites showed that cyber-social cohesion in South Korea was relatively dense.

본 논문의 목적은 인터넷 정보 흐름 데이터를 이용하여 광역 자치단체들 사이의 네트워크를 분석하는 데 있다. 먼저, 인터넷을 통한 지역간 정보 유통의 구조가 어떻게 나타나는지를 실증적으로 살펴보기 위하여 16개 시도에 위치한 대학교 웹사이트들 사이의 하이퍼링크 데이터를 수집하였다. 지역간 정보 격차 및 사회적 응집력과 같은 연구문제에 대답하기 위하여 사회 네트워크분석에서 파생된 여러 기법이 사용되었다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 서울의 중심성 값이 가장 높게 나타나 서울이 정보 흐름의 허브 역할을 하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 현실의 물리적 공간과 마찬가지로 웹 공간에서도 서울에 대한 집중도가 크다는 것을 보여준다. 응집도 분석의 결과 역시, 16개 지역들이 서울을 중심으로 다소 촘촘히 연결되어 있어서 평균 2번만 클릭을 하면 다른 지역의 웹사이트로 이동할 수 있었다.
