Abstract

Vertical distribution of temperature changes was studied using future projections based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) A2 and B2. Projections were derived from ECHO-G simulation and experiments were performed with greenhouse gas forcing only. All experiments showed that temperature in troposphere was projected to increase with height to the tropopause level. The increase was the largest in 300 hPa. Also increase of area-averaged temperature over East Asia was larger than increase of global mean temperature in all atmospheric layer. Considering seasonal changes, temperature increase was large in winter compared with that in summer at near surface. Whereas in upper troposphere, temperature increase was larger in summer than in winter. Global warming at lower troposphere was greater over continental areas in higher latitude than over oceanic area in lower latitude during winter. Whereas the warming over oceanic area in lower latitude was large in the upper troposphere in summer.
