Abstract

Present work aims to investigate the species composition, physiognomy, horizontal and vertical distributions, and thermal amplitude of arctic-alpine and alpine plants of the Korean Peninsula to elaborate the criteria for the rational selection of vulnerable indicator plants due to global warming. The study focuses on both evergreen arboreal coniferous and broad-leaved trees and shrubs. Many arctic-alpine and alpine plants of the Korean Peninsula, which are sensitive to high summer temperature, will be retreated or even extinct in Korea if current global warming trend continued. Urgent biogeographical researches are required for Korean arctic-alpine and alpine plant species at the global southernmost limit of their distribution.
