Abstract

According to the definition of the Warm Season (WS) of the Korean Peninsula, the long-term changes of the dates of the onset and the withdrawal and the duration of the WS have been investigated. Also, the climate changes of the switching season (April and September) have been diagnosed. The WS has been defined by the mean meridional wind (v), the temperature advection of the lower level, and rainfall amount. It starts at early April when the southerly wind and the warm temperature advection begin with the rapid increase of rainfall amount. And it ends at early September when the southerly wind and the warm temperature advection withdraw. Also, it was known that the WS is very similar to the summer monsoon over Korean Peninsula. During the latest 57 years, the air temperature and the 1000-500 hPa thickness in April have dropped. And, rainfall amount, rain days, and Precipitation Rate (PR) have decreased. Therefore, the onset date of the southerly wind and the warm temperature advection has been delayed. It also was known that the cold air and northerly wind over the East Asia have been accompanied by the drops of the Surface Air Temperature (SAT) and the 1000-500 hPa thickness. Also, the increase of snow depth with the above results have played a decisive role in blocking the northward moving of the rainband. On the September climate, the withdrawal date of the WS has been advanced, resultantly the duration of the WS has become shorter. And rain days have decreased but rainfall amount and the PR have increased. Also, it was known that the East Asian land has been cooled with the drops of the SAT and 1000-500 hPa thickness and with the increase of the snow depth.
