Abstract

In order to obtain the initial design of a two-mirror system with an infinite object distance, we firstly derive the analytical equations from paraxial ray tracing and Seidel third order aberration theory for spherical aberration and coma coefficient, which are expressed by the curvatures, the inter-mirror distance, and the effective focal length. Then, the analytical equations are solved by using a computer with numerical analysis method. From the obtained numerical solutions satisfying the nearly zero condition $(<10^{-10})$ for each aberration coefficient, careful observation shows a linear relationship, called the curvature linear equation between the curvatures of the two-mirror. This relationship can be utilized efficiently at the initial stage of design.
