Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluated for its validity and reliability of oral health impact profile as a tool for evaluating the quality of life related with oral health status in the elderly and as a basic data for establishing geriatric oral health policies. Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 510 in nationwide elderly welfare and free institution. older than 65 years through face-to-face interviews of cluster sample extraction method. The questionnaire consist of OHIP-49 and background variables such as age, gender, income, patients' oral health cognition. Results: Reliability of the full and short OHIP forms were high. The scores of the full and short OHIP forms were higher in the subjects who were aware of the need for oral health care and felt negative about oral health care and wearing a denture Conclusions: The full and short OHIP forms, proven to be reliable and valid, could be used as an indicator to measure the quality of life related with oral health statue in elderly Korean People.
