Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the current status and tasks of the local exhibition industry and provide its future direction through making case studies centering around trends and characteristics of the exhibition industry of German, the origin of the business. Results of the study suggest, most importantly, that each Messe center should be developed with a certain theme which is clearly discriminated from those of other similar centers. If the exhibition industry is to be grown in the level of a nation or region, it should focus on making remarkable a main industrial field of such nation or region and showing items that can be competitively advantageous over those to be exhibited in any other countries. This requires of each Messe center to be specialized. Autonomously or artificially, such specialization is to be promoted under mutual adjustment by Messe centers or agencies.
