Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of job satisfaction and its related factors of dental auxiliaries. Methods: The study subject were 1,508 dental hygienists and assistant nurses who were employed at the private dental clinic in Daegu, Korea. Among them, 965(dental hygienist 567, assistant nurses 398) responded completely. Data for this study was obtained by self-administrated questionnaire during 4 months. The questionnaire consisted of 26 items with 5-point likert scale which measured job satisfaction and 7 job facet satisfaction which were related to professional support, organization, income, prospect of their job, workloads, patients relation, and staff. Statistical analysis was done with SAS 8.01 and LISREL 8.12.Results: 62.3% of dental hygienists and 56% of assistant nurses thought that they were satisfied with their job, but 39.5% of dental hygienists and 39.7% of assistant nurses answered that they would change their job if possible. It seems to reflect ambivalent feelings to their job. The prospect of their job was more strongly related to degree of job satisfaction, income and prospect of their job influenced on the change of their job, and degree of job satisfaction also influenced on the change of their job. Conclusions: Dental hygienists and assistant nurses were generally satisfied with their job, but nearly 40 percent of them would change their job if possible. Thus we should developed a plan for increasing their job satisfaction by improving the satisfaction of prospect of their job and income.
