Abstract

In this study, the improved three-dimensional analysis model for more accurate analysis of cable stayed bridges is presented. In this improved analysis model, frame elements, of which the stability function is stabilized by the use of Taylor's series expansions, are used to model pylons and girders, and truss elements, of which equivalent modulus of elasticity is evaluated on the assumption that the deflected shape of the cable have the catenary function, are used to model the cable. Nonlinear static analysis is carried out for simple cable supported structures and a three-dimensional cable stayed bridge using the proposed three-dimensional analysis model. The numerical results are compared with the existing results by other researchers and show good agreement. And natural vibration analysis is carried out for a three-dimensional cable stayed bridge and the characteristics of the dynamic behavior are examined.
