Abstract

Objectives: The aims of this study were to determine the scale of dental fear and to analyze the related factors of dental fear and validity of CFSS-DS about treatment among elementary school students in Daegu city. Methods: Information was obtained with a self administrated questionnaire which was modified from Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale(CFSS-DS). Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 11.0. The validity of instruments were assessed by factor analysis. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was measured by Cronbach' s alpha coefficient. Results and Conclusions: Based on the reliability analysis, we concluded that the questionnaire of dental fear was reliable, and the Cronbach' s $\alpha$ coefficients of the all subscales were more than 0.6. Among the dental fear of 4 factors, care stimulation respondence factor was higher than other factors. It was general that female students had more dental fear than male, students who had more introvert, punctiliousness, bad opinion of own dental health, experience of pain and severe pain had higher dental fear score. Students had siblings with high dental fear, who experience dentist's unkindness had higher dental fear score. There was significantly positive among the dental fear of 4 factors. Particularly the most correlation between care stimulation respondence factor and dental general factor was r=O. 71.
