Abstract

This study aims to investigate the possibility to use municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) bottom ash that occupies nearly 90% of MSWI ash, as substitution for concrete cement. In order to examine the potential use of MSWI bottom ash in concrete cement the ash was pre-treated before analyzing its physical property and chemical compositions, and after the analysis, concrete with 10, 20 and 30% of bottom ash was made as a substitution for cement. As a result of test for the properties and environmental hazardousness, it is estimated that MSWI bottom ash, which has similar properties with pozzolan materials, can substitute concrete cement (with a range of 10~20% of cement) when it is pre-treated.
