Abstract
Sharing and distributing urban spatial data is a challenging task to stimulate inter-departmental cooperation and economic efficiency through data consistence. It is not difficult to find failure case of sharing geographic information in advanced GIS countries. Obstacles to GIS data sharing can be largely divided into technological and non-technological elements. Technological elements include heterogeneity of GIS data, difference in time resolution and problems in hardware and software supports, and excluding these elements are non-technological elements. Non-technological elements like rejection of data sharing are more important reasons. So, this study surveyed the perception of staff in charge of GIS tasks in local governments for data sharing and obstacles in sharing geographic data reported in advanced GIS countries with literature review . Also this study suggested solutions to stimulate sharing GIS data.
