Abstract

This paper reports on common characteristics found in the lives of important scientists. Those characteristics can be used in developing criteria for finding scientifically gifted children. The lives of several scientists were analyzed, and they were found to have had much interest in natural phenomena, rules, and pattern finding, to have been highly motivated in the study of mathematics, to have played with scientific instruments, and to have had high achievement scores. They were generally thoughtful and had helpful advisors and colleagues.
