Abstract

A theoretical investigation is carried out for understanding the properties of the monotonic double layers in plasmas with negative ions. We have derived the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation in plasmas, taking into account negative ion effects. The effects of negative ions and the density on the properties of the monotonic double layer are discussed. Furthermore, we show that the monotonic double layer is a nonlinear extension of a solitary hole in plasmas with negative ions.
