Titania Nanofibers Prepared by Electrospinning

Abstract

TiO2 nanofibers with diameters of 100 300 nm were prepared by using electrospun TiO2/PVP fibers by drying at 5 h in air and subsequent annealing for 3 h at 500 C. The properties of the TiO2 nanofibers were studied by varying PVP concentration, Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4 concentration, flow rate and electric field with an aid of XRD, SEM, viscometer, pycnometer and goniometer, respectively. Uniform and smooth fibers with a diameter of 120 nm were observed for the electrospun fibers containing a PVP concentration of 0.09 g/mL and a Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4 concentration of 0.14 g/mL at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/h and an electric field of 1 kV/cm. It is found that the viscosity is most influential on the fiber morphology and size.
