Dental caries status of primary teeth in Jung-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, Korea

Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this study was to obtain the data for the oral health program to control the dental caries of primary teeth at Jung-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, Korea. Methods: Caries prevalence on primary teeth was surveyed for the all 2-6 year old 776 children of 14 co-operative preschools among 19 preschools in Jung-gu, Busan, Korea. Results: Dental caries prevalence rate of primary teeth(dmf rate) was 84.0% in 6-year-olds. The dmft index was 5.0 in 6-year-olds. The ft/dmft rate was 54.7%. The dmft rate of primary lower second molar was 56.2% in 6-year-olds. Conclusions: It is necessary to develop the fissure sealant and fluoride-using program to prevent caries on primary teeth, and to develop the systemic incremental dental care program to cure caries of primary teeth.
