Abstract

DPPH(1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging activity assay and MTT(3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium) assay were used to analyze antioxidant and anticancer activities in 405 barley germplasms. In more than antioxidant activities(70%), the covered and naked barley having colors showed similar distribution of 28(14.5%) and 8(15.1%) accessions whereas the covered and naked barley landraces are 3(2.9%) and 14(25%) accessions, respectively. Against B16-F10 mouse melanoma cell lines the covered and naked barley landraces are showed distribution of 0-70% and 0-58%, respectively. And all the covered and naked barley having colors showed distribution of 0-70%. In antioxidant activities of native and colored barley, the covered and naked barley are showing a normal distribution in the center of 10-50%, In anticancer activities naked barley showed the tendency of distribution lowly as activities are higher whereas the covered barley are showing a normal distribution in the center of 10-50%.
