Abstract

Bovine tuberculosis is a zoonosis caused by Mycobacterium bovis which belongs to Mycobacteriumtuberculosis complex. The genome size of Mycobacterium bovis is a little smaller than that of M.tuberculosis, and the genome sequence of M. bovis is around 99% homology with that of M. tuberculosis.Bovine tuberculosis has been broken out worldwide even though some developed countries havesucceeded to remove the cows infected with M. bovis in the countries, In Korea, bovine tuberculosis wasreported in 1913 at first. Bovine tuberculosis has been steadily occurred until now even though theoutbreak has been decreased tremendously due to the test and slaughter policy, the restriction of animalmovement from the infected fanns, the slaughterhouse surveillance and the compensation for thediagnosed animals as tuberculosis, implemented by many developed counthes. To accomplish bovinetuberculosis-free status in Korea, each group - the national policy grouP, the local policy grouP, theresearch grouP, and the owner group has been incorporated each other, and the cooperation of each groupshould have been enforced. The research group have endeavored to fmd the improved sensitive andspecific diagnostics and develop more efficient diagnosis to prevent the spread of bovine tuberculosis.
