The Influence of Family Functioning and Familism on Awareness of parent-Supporting in College Students

Abstract

The purposes of present study was to examine how family functioning and familism influence the awareness of parent-supporting in college students. The subjects were 265 college students living in Gwangju Chonnam. Data were analyzed with Cronbach'${\alpha}$, descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Duncan's test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 14.0 for windows. The major findings were as follow; 1. College students' awareness of parent-supporting showed significant difference by family functioning and familism. 2. The variables influencing college students' awareness of parent-supporting were family cohesion, family flexibility, and familism. Familism was shown to be the most important factor predicting financial supporting. Family cohesion have the strongest impact on emotional and physical supporting.
