A Study on Correlation among Anger, Health State, and Quality of Life in the Elderly

Abstract

Purpose: The study was done to derive essential data available for establishing a practical basis for improving the quality of life of the elderly by identifying the correlation between anger, health state, and quality of life. Methods: The subjects selected for the survey were 335 elderly in Seoul and Gyung-gi province. Measures were STAXI(Chon, 1996), CMI, and SF-36. Data was analyzed using SPSS-WIN 12.0. Results: First, the mean scores of anger, health state, and quality of life were 1.99, 2.80, and 2.56 respectively. Second, in regard to correlation among anger, health state, and quality of life, there was a low, direct-proportional correlation between anger and quality of life. In addition, there was a high directproportional correlation between health state and quality of life. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish a social infrastructure for offering the elderly opportunities for expressing themselves freely and resolving their own problems, receiving information, receiving educational programs and doing various jobs within their ability.
